How We Nerd Out: Finding Community in the Unexpected

I started this blog one night on a whim. I felt like I had so much to say, but I didn't have time to express my thoughts until after my family went to sleep. I just needed a space to express myself. This manifested into a blog and then venturing into the Amazon Influencer program.

It's been four months since I started branching out into trying new things, and the benefits have been more than just learning about affiliate links and content creation. I’ve connected with a unique, bright, kind, and diverse group of people through the Amazon Influencer program. On a recent call, we found ourselves laughing about our different ways of thinking—how some of us have hair-brained ideas and impulsively create websites on whims while others meticulously craft spreadsheets and crunch numbers just for fun. (Yes, for fun!)

We laugh about our nerd tendencies and how one persons joy is anothers worst nightmare. These little moments of shared humor and understanding remind me just how much we all crave connection, no matter what brought us together in the first place.

I feel fortunate to have made friends from across the country and even a buddy in England. Why is this relevant? It’s proof that we all need to express ourselves, share our quirks, and find people who get us. We need community.

Stepping outside our comfort zones—whether it's starting a blog, joining an influencer program, or engaging in a random debate about room names—can lead to wonderful and inadvertent benefits. It brings us closer to people we would never have met otherwise, expands our understanding of the world, and reminds us that it's okay (and honestly, kind of amazing) to nerd out about the things we love.

So, if you're on the fence about trying something new, my advice? Just go for it. You never know who you might meet or what unexpected joys you’ll discover along the way.
